Edward Bilstein, German Precision Regulator
Height 6' 2 1/2", mahogany, ca. 1830.
I have not been able to find out much about this clock from the Internet or my reference books. It is obviously very high quality and made by a master clock maker.
The original 8” hand-inked paper dial is covered by glass, and signed “Edward Bilstein, Darmstadt”. Door jams are beaded to prevent dust filtration. The movement has a sweep second hand, and the pendulum is huge at 9” and 24 pounds (yes, this is not a mistake). The pendulum rod is black painted wood. The movement is driven by a single 5 pound weight through two compound pulleys.
