Joseph Ives "Hour Glass"
Height 23", ca. 1839-1841.
Unusual hour glass shaped mahogany case with free standing columns on each side. 9 1/2" brass dial with center cutout to show movement. Reverse painted tablet with town center and meeting house. 30-hour fusee time and strike movement, iron leaf wagon springs mounted above movement, wire gong below movement. Small ornate brass pendulum. Simple brass door hook. Beautiful paper label inside case.
Given the extreme rarity it is hard to tell if the dial and glass are original. An outstanding example regardless.
We recently visited the NAWCC museum and found this model clock on display. Still not sure about the dial and glass as the museum clock was not all original. Still looking for a verified all original clock to compare.
