Everything on this is made from large single planks of solid cherry. The top alone is a solid 20” piece. And this is heavy. Hand made, chamfered, dove tailed, lower doors are mortised. Can feel the imperfections on the top and sides due to the manual tools used. Original opalescent Sandwich glass pulls. Lock hardware intact and working. And a great story. Dale went to buy this, arranged delivery, came back and told Tamra it had been sold. As Tamra was having a really bad day she broke down crying, she really really wanted it. But Dale kept the secret until it was delivered, at which time Tamra jumped into his arms. Great ending! 47” wide and 55” tall, Boston circa 1830.47” wide and 55” tall, Boston circa 1830.
Handcrafted solid cherry with curly birdseye maple drawer fronts, really stunning in the light. All the boards are single pieces of wood, including the top and sides. Hand cut dovetail joints and hand planing marks are authentic. Hand cut reeding on the vertical corners and the drawer panels. Some minor warping of the top and drawer. Amazingly no age splits anywhere. Chiseled brass pulls are original. Bottom drawer lock is for decoration only to match the other three. Unbelievable this piece has survived with so little damage or wear. Antique shop owner mentioned this is likely a country piece from New England, and while not made in New York or Boston was an expensive piece at the time. 41" wide and 38.5" high, circa 1790.
A traditional "Hitchcock" design side or desk char from about 1840. Made of hardwood but painted. Hand carving marks are visible. The original stenciled fruit bowl painting and grained seat have been preserved with clear varnish. According to the dealer the chair was from Connecticut. 16" wide, 19" deep, 34" tall, seat is 17" high.
This persian rug was made circa 1970 in Qum, Iran. The rug is finely made and is entirely silk, including the pile and foundation. Size is 4' 5" by 7' 1". Shah-Abbas design with central medallion, pendents, curve-linear design, navy blue background, with a multicolored design. Most fine persian rugs are a mix of wool and silk. Rugs that are entirely silk are rare and highly collectible. And a bonus that it is beautiful in our room.
Cherry Sheraton One Drawer Table
One board top, man made. Can feel the imperfections on the top from the original hand tools. Circa 1825.
Hand made with solid pieces of cherry. The two fold-up leafs are particularly wavey due to the hand tooling. The three dovetailed drawers are Mahogany veneered. The lower drawer is open so a bag can be installed, presumably for sewing scraps. No idea if this is the original design but it is interesting. Brass rollers on the leg bottoms. We are unsure of the date on this piece, estimating it to be circa 1830-1850.
Hand crafted about 1830 in New England, solid cherry secretary desk is made to use standing or with a stool. Spiral columns and hand carved fox heads for pulls are authentic. The drop front rests on pull out supports. Inside are tiny curly or "tiger" maple drawers and leather bound "book" files to hold bonds and deeds. The lock does not work. Lower drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms. Square cut nails are visible on this historic desk.
Large heavy oak table with carved legs and two extensions. Lots of solid wood here. Don’t know much about who or when the table was made, but it does have a great story. Right after getting married Tamra’s grandmother bought an old house, and she found this old table covered in dirt under the porch. Grandma is a small person so it is amazing that she somehow crawled under the small porch and dragged it out. She used this through her entire life. We are so fortunate that she decided to give it to us just before going into a retirement facility.
Cherry arm chair with a wicker backing and dark original finish. The legs and arm supports are carved in an interesting spiral pattern. Very pretty piece. We bought this at an auction in Gillingham WI so we don't know much about it. Purely a guess but we think it is circa late 1800's. If you know something about this chair please let us know.
Beautiful finely woven hand made persian rug. Wool pile, silk foundation, silk highlights, floral pattern, Shah-Abbas design with central medallion, elaborate corners, curvilinear design, pendents, white background, and taupe border. Made by a master craftsman in Isfahan Iran ca. 2010. 5' 1" by 7' 5".
Empire Cherry & Mahogany Dresser
American Empire dresser made of solid cherry with matched flame grain mahogany on the front. This dresser was hand made on the east cost and dates to the American Empire period, circa 1835. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms. Hand planing marks, threaded wooden knobs and share nails are authentic. Two of the three locks are present but no key. 44” wide by 35” tall.
This hand made table is beautiful but very unusual. Everything is well made but more craftsy than most of our other pieces. The front knob has an interesting star inlay pattern. The top has four maple inlay planks. Front board under the drawer has a unique hand carved edge decoration. All the boards are irregular from the original hand planing. Sheraton period circa 1830-1840.
Tamra saw this at a collectors home and had to have it. Large heavy gong hanging on a solid mahogany base. The gong is solid bronze and hand-hammered. Rings beautifully with the leather wrapped wood striker. The base completely surrounds the gong and has beautiful decorations on the base. At the time we bought it we didn't know the piece was signed "John Taylor & Son Manufacturers Edinburgh" and "D6669" on the bottom. A little searching on the Internet found "John Taylor set up business as a cabinet-maker in 1825 in West Thistle Street, Edinburgh, and subsequently at 109-10, Princes Street. In 1852 John Taylor and Son were appointed 'Cabinet-makers and Upholsterers in Ordinary to Her Majesty the Queen'.". Examples of his furniture are in the Edinburgh museum. Unfortunately his business was open well into the 1900's and we can't find another piece, so we are guessing it is circa late 1800's. If you have information about this piece please contact us.
Georgeous hand made finely woven persian rug. Wool pile, silk foundation, silk highlights, floral pattern with central medalian and two smaller secondary medalians. Primary colors are ivory, green, coral and burgandy. Most likely a wedding gift as the two smaller medalians are different colors. Made by a master craftsman in Persia, circa 1970. 4' 10" by 6' 8".
